REALLYMUSICRADIO presents
Mike Errico
Far from the blushing, sensitive 'singer-songwriter boy' image that seems to clog nightclubs and guitar stores all over the country, New York City's Mike Errico takes a stance that is influenced by punk-folkies like Ani DiFranco and Jeff Buckley, while imbuing it with his own innate sense of Stevie Wonder-era soul music. Mike offers pop music as both party favor and healing tonic.
Since the release of his 1999 debut, Pictures of the Big Vacation, Errico has spent his time touring, playing on many independent records with emerging artists, releasing a live CD Tonight I Drink You All, scoring music for TV and theater, and reevaluating his relationship with the turbulent business of music. "Between Pictures and Skimming, a revolution occurred in the music industry, says Errico. I turned down several 'traditional' deals, and worked on creating an artistic environment that allowed me, quite simply, to make a living making music during chaotic times." Drawing upon new artistic inspiration and a new business plan, Errico hit the road, and used the proceeds to make Skimming on his own terms.
Continuing down a path hinted at by his earlier records, Skimming places Errico's acoustic craftsmanship and sharp lyrics in a fleshed-out, electrified setting. Freed, his writing is open, convicted and powerful: from the soul-drenched rock of the title track, to the secular gospel of the single "Grace," to the astral melancholy of "Underwater," to the haunting, Siren-call of the sister tracks "When I Get Out Of Jail" and "Coney Island," Mike lays his heart bare.
Since debuting on the national scene as an emerging artist at Woodstock '99, Errico has opened for artists as diverse as Jonny Lang, Rusted Root, Semisonic, North Mississippi Allstars, Ari Hest, Dido, Keller Williams, Vertical Horizon, Mark Geary, Soulive, Jonatha Brooke, Our Lady Peace, Run DMC, Dan Bern, Bob Weir and Ratdog, Longwave, Bob Schneider, Bif Naked, Freedy Johnston, Great Big Sea, The Silos, Guster, Dar Williams, and many, many others. His fan base continues to radiate outward from his NYC headquarters.
