Kieran Kane & Kevin Welch "Everybody's Working
For The Man Again..." It seems that the current political
climate is going to be difficult for lots of artists to ignore and
this tune is one of several that express a point of view from the new
collaboration by Kieran and Kevin "You Can't Save Everybody."
There's more than that here from these two highly accomplished
songwriters who demonstrate a wonderful chemistry as they make their
way through this pretty organic set. Some of the other highlights
you'll hear on reallymusicradio include "You Can't Save
Everybody" "Just Like That" "Dark Eyed Gal" "Till I'm Too Old To
Die Young" "A Prayer Like Any Other (For Nikke)."
Naked Blue "All The Time In The
World" For me this duo from Baltimore represents an excellent
example of how it's possible for great artists to fly just below the
radar of most of the world. In fact, it's the main reason
reallymusicradio is here...to shine a light on music that's
this good. "Five By Five" is the just the latest CD from Naked Blue,
and like lots of fabulous music, trying to drop them into a
pigeonhole doesn't do them (or you) justice. Great songs and a
unique musical point of view are a couple of reasons to dig a little
deeper. Other tracks featured on reallymusicradio are "Fear
Of Flight" "Welcome Home" "Pink Hat" and "Extraordinarily."
The Subdudes "If Wishing Made It
So" It's been eight years since the original Subdudes broke up
and if you knew about them from the early 90's, then you have an idea
what you've been missing. If you're a newcomer, "Miracle Mule"
serves as a great introduction. The new Subdudes are the heart of
the old band and certainly the New Orleans-based, roots rock, gospel,
blues whatever the hell else sound that's been their signature
remains. These guys kind of put the American in "americana" and it's
hard not to be pulled in by their seemingly effortless soulful glide
through this CD. Just about anyone who likes real music ought to
enjoy this one...also playing on reallymusicradio"Morning
Glory" "Brightest Star" "Standin' Tall" and "Miracle Mule.
Mutual Admiration Society "Be
Careful" Between Nickel Creek and Toad the Wet Sprocket fans,
there have been a lot of people looking forward to this release for
quite some time. Since it was a quick, spur-of-the-moment sort of
deal, Glen Phillips didn't have time to learn any Nickel Creek
material, so the CD is basically Glen Phillips backed by Nickel
Creek, which actually comes out sounding fairly close to a Nickel
Creek record anyway. Recorded and mixed in six days, which is a
blink of the eye in big-time record terms, it's laid-back and goes
for what Glen was hoping for...a bit of the beauty that he's
attracted to from Nickel Creek. They also had the extremely good
taste to include a cover of my all-time favorite Harry Nilsson tune
"Think About Your Troubles" from the "The Point." You'll also hear
"Francesca" and "La Lune" on reallymusicradio.
Ollabelle "I Am Waiting"
Maybe you're not like me, but if you are, then any time you see the
name T-Bone Burnett, you have pretty high expectations. There are
all sorts of places to have picked up on the magic of the T-Bone
touch, and even if you just consider the artists he's produced (Los
Lobos, BoDeans, Counting Crows, Bruce Cockburn, etc) or the
accomplishment of "O, Brother Where Art Thou" and "Down From The
Mountain" you might have an idea of what to expect from his latest
production project...the debut CD from Ollabelle. The material leans
significantly toward gospel (although the song above is an old
Rolling Stones tune) but it's such a fresh take and the arrangements
are lovely and unexpected so that it's likely to appeal to a pretty
wide audience. Add to that T-Bone's production style of letting the
true artists' shine through and this album is really a pleasure.
You'll also hear "Two Steps" "Soul Of A Man" and "Jesus On The
Mainline" on reallymusicradio.
Ruthie Foster "Real Love"
Although she's spent some of her professional life playing with big
stars in New York City, Ruthie's based in Texas and has built a big
following playing blues and folk festivals. Her new album "Stages"
is a live recording from various stops around the country and shows
off her incredible voice as well as some great original songs. My
guess is her live shows put people on the floor given the power she
appears to command from the stage. We're delighted to have her voice
join us on reallymusicradio and you can also hear " Another
Rain Song" "Prayin' For Rain" and "Full Circle" on the current list
and most of the other tunes featured in reallymusic live sets as well.
